CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Gi Jiu-Jitsu

(Youth and Adult Classes)
This class will consist of traditional Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu training where students will wear a gi (uniform) during practice.  Submission locks and choke holds from the ground such as arm Bars, wrist locks, leg locks, chokes, and ankle locks will be a large focus but not all. This class will also consist of take downs on occasion. Techniques that will get a person down to the ground that are also great for high school wrestling, sport jiu- jitsu competition, and a street fight defense scenario.  Aside for submissions and take downs, students will also learn how to just hold an opponent or attacker down and control the situation without applying any type of submission or choke. The class will be geared towards sport competition jiu- jitsu as well as self- defense jiu -jitsu in order to protect yourself if an altercation happened on the street.

No Gi Jiu-Jitsu

(Adult Classes)
A majority of classes will be performed with the gi (uniform) on but not all.  Twice a month there will be a no gi class where students can where shorts and a t-shirt, sweat pants or spats, rash guards, or whatever makes them comfortable. This class will be a little more geared to the self-defense aspect of jiu-jitsu.  Like how to protect yourself on the ground if an attacker is coming at you with punches or kicks to the face. How to get out of that bad situation to get control over the fight and make sure your safe until help arrives. Also, submission locks and choke holds will be shown that are geared towards not having a gi on.

BRENT WICKLUND

Brent Wicklund is a Martial Artist from Palm Springs, Ca.  His love for Martial Arts started at the age of 4 while sitting on his mother’s lap watching his older brother train. That was the beginning of a lifelong attachment and love for the Martial Arts.  He couldn’t wait for the day to come when he finally was old enough to give the arts a try himself.

Brent has studied
Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo. He continues to train in Judo and Brazalian Jiu Jitsu to this day as this is his passion. He progressed rapidly within the Judo ranks, winning several tournaments and placing in several others. He even captured the gold at California State games. With this success, he was promoted to the rank of brown belt in Judo. By this time he was 28 years old with many years of Judo competition under his belt.  Although he felt like he had become a successful Judo fighter, he still was itching to give Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions a try.

Brent began training at Palm Spring Jiu Jitsu under professor Ramon Diaz.
Brent came to Palm Springs Jiu Jitsu as a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and jumped into the competition world right away after connecting with Ramon and leaving Coachella Valley Jiu Jitsu. With an extensive competition background already, he decided to only do the huge tournaments, like the World Championships or North American.  Within 3 years he became the White Belt World Champion, Pan American Bronze medalist, Copa Pacifica Gold medalist, the Blue Belt National Silver medalist, the Purple belt North American Bronze medalist, the brown belt grappling games bronze medalist, and the Michigan Open Silver medalist.
In 2017 Brent and his family moved to Michigan where he continued his training. He received his black belt December 16, 2018 under Master Joe Moreira, Ramon's teacher. Brent continues his training under Master Joe, doing seminars whenever Master Joe is in the Michigan area and even flying out to California several times to get certified under Master Joe as well.
